Bangladeshi Workers Missing in Fiji after Alleging Abuse by Employers

Eight Bangladeshi workers have gone missing in Fiji, a country in the Pacific region. However, the government claims that they are in hiding.

Before disappearing, the workers alleged that their employers in Fiji did not treat them fairly.

In response, Fiji’s Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration has urged them to file their complaints with the police.

The missing individuals are identified as Minhazul Islam, Abdul Ahad, Arshadul Ali, Durul, Imran Ali, Mohammad Azim, Liton Mia, and Shahidul Islam.

According to a report by the Fiji Times, Fiji’s Home Affairs and Immigration Minister, Pio Tikoduadua, has called on the Bangladeshi nationals to come forward. He stated, “They need to approach the police to allow proper investigation into their complaints.”

Before their disappearance, the workers had alleged that their employers behaved inhumanely towards them. Following these allegations, they went missing.

Minister Tikoduadua said, “They should inform the police about the matter. I do not know where they are, but I urge them to surrender to the police. They can be assured that the police will hear their complaints fairly and justly.”

Fiji’s Employment Minister, Agni Deo Singh, has also expressed concern about the workers’ whereabouts. He stated that if the workers remain in hiding, it will not be possible to investigate the allegations against the employers.

The minister added, “If they do not come forward, it will not be possible to verify the truth of their complaints. We assure them of full cooperation.”

This incident has brought international attention to issues concerning migrant worker rights and labor-related grievances.
